Over the next few days you will be starting to build the pasta bridges. Prior to beginning to build, you will need to meet with the teacher to explain your choice of bridge. Refer to the Building Rubric in Assignment #1 - Pasta Bridge Design.

Over the next few days you will be working on Part 1 of the Unit 1 Project. Refer to the Drawing Rubric in Assignment #1 - Pasta Bridge Design. The project is to design, build and test a pasta bridge. By Monday September 30, 2024 you will need to complete the following items:
Three Hand Sketches of 3 Different Bridge Designs
One detailed drawing (using rulers) of the design chosen to build
One 3D Model of the chosen design in Tinkercad

Today we will be watching a documentary on a bit of the history of how bridges have been built and designed over the last 100 years. This is meant to be a prelude to the design on Monday.

Today we will be working as a class to make a simple rail bridge with www.tinkercad.com. We will be practicing the items from yesterday but using more hole features and ruler features.

Today we will be working as a class to make different types of building shapes. In particular we will be learning:
How to align objects in Tinkercad
How to use the snap grid spacing
How to change the size of the work plane
How to use the ruler function
Monday September 16, 2024
Today we will be setting up accounts with www.tinkercad.com. Students will have the period to work through tutorials on the site to practice the techniques of 3D modelling.

Problem Solving Activity (15 minutes) - The Three Little Pigs
What is the problem that needed to be solved?

Technical Drawing Practice (15 minutes)
The teacher will give you a shape to draw and you need to draw a front side, left side, right side, top side bottom side and back side as if it was shown in a glass box.
You will be provided with graph paper and a ruler.
Follow along with the teacher as they draw the same shape.
Assignment #1 - Pasta Bridge Design (45 minutes)
Review the draft of the assignment with the teacher.
Spend the remaining time in the class looking at possible bridge designs.

Design Day Challenge #1
Your task is to build simulated bridges with pasta and test them under design loading. You need to make a google doc and share a screenshot of each bridge that passes the test. At the end, please write a short paragraph of what you learned (it can't say you learned nothing).
